This blog is created for the purpose to emphasis the importance of internet for the students especially by creating wireless zone in the UiTM Shah Alam. Besides that, we would like to expose the true abilities of the internet not only on academics purposes and also as communication tools.

One for all, all for one (o.O)

For ur information, due date for Maxis Bridging Community Competition is juz around da corner. It is on 6 of November 2007 after delaying for few weeks as requested by participants due to certain reasons. Welcome to November and bye bye to October..~:( So, for sure all the bloggers keep on improving as well as updating their blog to attract the judges (hehe...juz kidding!). Actually, the most part is have they even my grop achieved the project objectives that purposely to reach out the targetted community. In addition to that, deep in my heart, I appreciated for all the comments that we have received so far.

To make it clear, we dont even wanna promote any types of Internet Service Provider (ISP) to be implemented in UiTM Shah Alam. Some of the visitors of this blog simply said that we wanna implement the wireless project using Maxis as the middleware to access the Internet. Doesnt matter Maxis, Celcom or others. We already noticed that, students especially who stayed inside the campus have a problem while accessing even to have the Internet connection as well. Thus, by referring to the project goals, objectives or scope, we didnt stated any kind of ISP to be used in this project. We wanna see how far the wireless implementation will help the student performance through the project.

Yes we are using Maxis Broadband to implement the mini wireless zone in our project. Juz bear in mind that, 1K (thank you to MAXIS) is not ENOUGH to make it real!!!!!!! It is belongs to the high level management to make this project as a platform to further the REAL implementation. YES, for sure it takes huge amount of budget. So, thank u for asking guys. Dont judge the book by its cover. Read through first only then u will feel the excitement!! yeah!!!..

Project Analysis

For today's updates, we would like to show some details explaination of data analysis based on primary resource which is short questionnaire given to the respondent.

In addition to that, we have visualized the data gathered in the form of bar graph. Below are graphs obtained for each of the questions:

From the first and second questions, we could say that most and all of the participants own a laptop themselves. Mostly today, each laptop will be equipped with built-in wireless application and devices ready instead of having to rely on external devices to install the wireless application. With this fact, these participants are already in the final phase of just only receiving the internet access anytime soon.

From the third and fourth questions, it is obvious that majority of the participants have already been using the Maxis Wireless Community that are being implement. In fact they still are using that program till today as a medium for connecting to internet zone. This indicates that the program brings a lot of satisfaction and benefits to them as shown in question 4 where most of them says that the program is excellent and really helps them in their daily life in terms of internet access and facilities.

From question number 5 and 6, it shows that with the implementation of the Wireless Community, these participants can use the internet effectively where majority of them choose that they dedicate most of their internet usage through academic times that includes surfing journals and articles, taking notes and get others academic resources.

As conclusion, most of them feel that the implementation of this program really and brings a lot of benefits to them where 26 participants chooses to say yes as their answers. Hence, we would rather say that, we have achieved the Project's MOV.

Day by day, it is hard for us to meet at one time due to final examination. However, we manage to have a 15 minutes meeting among project commitee to preview back of what we have spent so far on the project implementation. Once in blue Moon. Sorry for not updating the latest news from Our side. AlMost one 1 week of duit raya collectinG season besides reading the pocket notes purposely preparing for final examination. Back to the business, hurray!!!.. After having a short meeting with project committee, we have declared that our mini wireless zone implementation is closed officially last week. I wanna take this opportunity to thank all the participants for actively participate either directly or indirectly during the course. On behalf of project committee, I appreciated for the warming participation from all of you. So, what we r going to do now is, we wanna improve and add on some of the requirements for the public to view the feedback, project expenses etc. Perhaps, it will give crystal clear view on what we have done so far after implementing the project. Peace be upon you guys..!! Selamat Hari Raya....God willing, we will celebrate hari raya on this saturday. Everybody is getting busy to put more efforts on baking kuih raya as well as decorating their house. "Balek Kampung" fever is coming especially among the students and yet, be careful on your journey. Remember your love one.. Hence, we would like to take this opportunity to wish SeLaMaT MeNyAmBuT HaRi RaYa AiDiLfItRi MuLiA.. Forgive each other during hari raya. Project Report - 7th Oct (Cafeteria)

FAMILY TIME (^O^)

On the afternoon of 7th october we implemented our last theme which is 'FAmily TimE'. Our venue for the last implementation(sob...sob...sob...) is UiTM Kolej Teratai`s Cafeteria. As usual we set up all the equipments needed for the mini wireless zone, we run configurations test, connections test and hanging up the banner, of course . When everything seem fine we start our activities, we gave a short brief to the participants and show them a websites and applications that can be use to connect them to the the family and friends.

Some application that can be used are:

1. instant messenger

2. yahoo messenger

3. google talk

4. window messenger

5. skype

6. meebo and etc.

Instant messenger is a powerful application, is allow us to live chat, conferences, webcam (allow the other party to watch us live using web-camera), file transfer and with the latest features it allow us to do online call (between messenger to messenger, or messenger to phone depending on the service provided)

It allows user to send sms online free.

The Hari RAya is coming and it is time to send regards to the families and friends.

Project Report - 30th Sept (Chansellery)

Praise be to Allah, for enabling us to complete our 2nd phase of mini wireless zone implementation on 30th of September without many difficulties. Although we still in da fasting month, but we take it as a challenge to do the mission. Nothing is impossible~!!!. In the evening, we have started setting up Chansellery Park as our 2nd mini wireless zone prototype. At first, our team members arrived there at 3.00 p.m with hardware. Numbers of students walking beside the beautiful pool waiting for us. Actually, they already know about this community project since we spread out about the project activity previously. We have started with configuring the wireless zone and allowed participants to access to the internet.

The theme on that day was "LEISURE TIME" where student only accessing for leisure purpose. The purposes of the theme are as follows:

1. To shows that internet is not only for academic purpose

2. Mind relaxing

3. Sharing opinion through web forum over the internet

On 28th September, we felt so proud becoz The Wonderers had giving us an opportunity to join them in collaboration for the project community in Sabak Bernam. Actually, we do support our team mate although they are one of our tight competitor (to b frank!).. hehe. For us, the most valuable thing is we can contribute our knowledge as well as lesson-learned from past experience to help The Wonderers in educating the villagers to the ICT world. Spend da money

Hello guys!! Nothing much to upload today's report on this blog. However, we can't wait to face this weekend to accomplish our next mission!! Phase 2 is kinda cool because we are going to implement the next wireless zone in the pool!!. Believe it or not? Just believe it.. Our group motto is:-

"WIRELESS IS ALL YOU GOT HERE"

Actually, we have received our RM 1K yesterday evening at non-official ceremony from our supervisor Cik Rashidah Rawi. Thanks to MAXIS for giving us a chance to serve the community. We try our best to reach out the community. God willing, amin...

On this evening after finishing our thesis class, we have a chance to go to Master Prima Enterprise which is situated in UiTM Shah Alam to book a banner for this MBC project. By tomorrow evening we can have the banner hanging up in our mini zone area.. So, watch out u guys in UiTM Shah Alam.. Here we go!!!!

Project Report - 22nd Sept (Laman Najib)

On 22nd of September, we have started setting up Laman Najib as our first mini wireless zone prototype. Our team members arrived there at 11.30 a.m with hardwares and full of spirit (jiayou!!!). We have started with configuring the wireless zone and allowed participants to access to the internet.

The theme on that day was "ACADEMIC TIME" where student only accessing for academic purpose. We also provided them with a few academic websites as follows:

All the digital collections such as referred journals, professional articles, past year examination papers(UiTM) and even lecturer notes can be obtained and downloaded (i-Learn) with no charges for UiTM students.

Project Progress - 19th Sept (Project Phases)

As a rule, Project Management Processes are concerned with defining and coordinating the activities and controls needed to manage the project. Because of that, we have adapted this framework as a guideline to run our project implementation throughout Project Life Cycle (PLC).

1) Project Initiation:

We analyse what are the essential materials which will be needed for these events. We also list out which targeted places to start our mini prototypes. We also perform phase review (this is to ensure that our project is on track, we also prepared a back up plan for uncertainty risks).

2) Planning:

We plan our weekly activities, so we could organize, control and stick to our schedule. furthermore we have design our network architecture to establish the connectivity. Besides that, we plan to do survey regarding the benefitcials of internet toward the student perfomances.

3) Execution:

We execute all the activities that we have planned.

4) Closure:

We viewed the project completion by giving the result obtained from the survey in graphical form. Other than that do short interview randomly to ask for personal opinion on wireless facilities. We keep on updating our blog with the current activities and findings. As an extra effort, we have documented all the findings to propose to the higher level management to acknowledge them on the importances of wireless facilities in UiTM to be specific.

Project Progress - 12th Sept (Stepping Stone)

On 10th september we have received a good news regarding on Maxis CyberlinQ 2007 Competition. Once again we have been selected to continue our project to second phase and we will receive RM 1K..hurray!!! (perhaps, going to spend for the project. hehe..).

On 12th september, we had our first meeting in Lab 13 at our beloved faculty with our supervisor Cik Rashidah Rawi.

In conjunction with 50th Merdeka celebration, it is pleasure to announce Maxis CyberlinQ 2007, 50 semi-finalists who will continue with the Competition to Phase 2.

UiTM Wireless Community Project

Background of UiTM


Universiti Teknologi MARA(UiTM) is the pioneer institution of higher learning that is totally committed to producing a significant number of Bumiputera professionals who are skilled in a broad spectrum of industry. They contribute to increasing the national productivity and improving the livelihood and standard of living of the people of Malaysia.

UITM is moving towards a World Class university. In order to produce a world class graduates the students must have not only knowledge from the textbook but they have to widen the knowledge by knowing the world outside as well. This will give them an extra credit compare to the other graduates. To gain the external knowledge, internet is the cheapest, easiest and fastest way.

Project Objectives

1. To increase UiTM student knowledge and performance by providing wireless internet accessibility within the campus.
2. To enhance the student with unboundedness academic resources so that the students are not only depending on the textbooks.
3. To make internet as a communication tools such as email, instant messaging,video conferencing and online sms.
   

Current Problems

Currently, it is hard for the students to get an internet access within the campus. Internet facilities are only provided in the faculties and a few of student’s hostels. To provide internet access using cables will be costly and a lot of tasks have to been done to implement it. Besides it still limit the number of users to access it.

These circumstances not allowing the student to fully utilize the effectiveness and efficiency of the internet. Internet provided wider resources, more updated and inexpensive references compares to a book or printed resources. Other than that, it provides and online discussion whereby students can discuss, arguing and gained opinions from other users.

In addition, internet can also act as a communication tools. Making a phone call using a mobile phone will be expensive, but there an online service application that offer a pc to mobile call or pc to pc call with a lower rate and even. For example is skype and yahoo messenger. Besides that there also online free sms, video conferencing that are provided online. This allow the student to contact their families and friends without be afraid of the bills.

Missions / Goals

• Increase the student learning effectiveness and student results by implement wireless zone (which allows unlimited geographical internet accessibilities)
• Helps the students to enhance and deepen and gain knowledge using different approaches not only depending on the lecturer’s notes but they be able to get resources from the internet.
• Changing the traditional printed textbook based to digital based such as online journals, articles, newspaper cutting and even digital books.
• Encourage the students to keep in touch with their families and friends using the online services.
  

Project’s measurable organizational value

• Produce computer literate graduates.
• Producing world class standard graduates.
• Creating a knowledgeable community who not only good academics area but also tailored with the current issues.
• Students have a strong and great relationship with the family and friends.

How project MOV support the goal and strategies

• By cultivating IT literate culture among university students.
• By educating the students to enhance the use of ICT in their learning process and also to keep their knowledge up to date.
• In creating a knowledgeable communities, implicitly, we improved the students’ soft skills.
• By increasing the information technology literate among people, we will be able tighten the relationship bond between family and friends through the use latest ICT tools such as e-mails, video conferencing, instant messaging and online sms.
  

Business Case Objectives

• To state the important of implementing the wireless technology in the campus
• Encourage the student to fully utilize the use of the internet and make it as the secondary references.
• To expose the community about the benefits of using the internet in academic and non-academic areas.
